About this scholarship

This Scholarship is established in 2022 to support students from other Australian law schools travelling to Sydney to attend the honours workshop. The Scholarship has been funded by a bequest of $50,000 made in 1973 by Mrs Linda Currey of Strathfield, N.S.W., to establish a travelling scholarship or scholarships in the Faculties of Arts and Law in memory of her husband, Charles Herbert Currey, MA LLD. 1. Background a. This Scholarship is established in 2022 to support students from other Australian law schools travelling to Sydney to attend the honours workshop. b. This Scholarship has been funded by a bequest of $50,000 made in 1973 by Mrs Linda Currey of Strathfield, N.S.W., to establish a travelling scholarship or scholarships in the Faculties of Arts and Law in memory of her husband, Charles Herbert Currey, MA LLD. 2. Eligibility a. Applicants must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate, Juris Doctor and Masters by coursework students studying at law schools around Australia and New Zealand. b. Applicants must be willing to attend the honours workshop showcasing their research. 3. Selection Criteria a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of I. a personal statement that demonstrates financial need, and II. supporting documentation which provides evidence of financial need. b. Preference will be given to students: I. who demonstrates financial disadvantage. c. The applicants will be selected on the nomination of a selection committee consisting of the Associate Dean (Research Education) of the Sydney Law School, or their nominated delegate and one other staff member from the School. 4. Value a. The Scholarship is valued at $500. b. The Scholarship value will be paid by the Sydney Law School as a one-off payment on confirmation of attending the honours workshop. c. Deferral or suspension of the Scholarship is not permitted. d. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds. e. No other amount is payable. 5. Ongoing eligibility a. None Apply 6. Termination a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient: I. withdraws from attending the honours workshop, II. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limitedto, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application, III. if the student ceases to meet the eligibility requirements specified for this Scholarship, or IV. any other provision as indicated in these terms that would lead to termination. b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated unless due to University error. c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under anyinstance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University reserves the rightto request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.
