About this scholarship

This scholarship was established from donations to celebrate when James Wolfensohn received an honorary degree of the Doctor of Science in Economics in September 1997. a. The scholarship was established by donations received to mark the occasion when James Wolfensohn, one of the University's most distinguished alumni, was conferred an honorary degree of Doctor of Science in Economics in September 1997. b. This scholarship aims to promote international understanding and advance the academic development of students by enabling them to spend part of their degree in an approved overseas institution where they will undertake studies. a. Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, New Zealand Citizen, or Australian Permanent Resident. b. Applicants must have completed 24 credit points of an undergraduate course. c. Applicants must be enrolled in at least 18 credit points in an undergraduate degree at the University of Sydney at the time of application. d. Applicants must be undertaking studies at an institution in Asia in Faculty approved units of study which will be counted towards their degree. e. Applicants must have acceptance into the Exchange Program administered by the University of Sydney. a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit. b. The Scholarship will be awarded by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) or their nominee, on the recommendation of Global Student Recruitment & Mobility. a. The Scholarship is valued at $5,000 and is tenable for one semester only. b. The Scholarship will be paid in a single instalment. c. Deferral of the Scholarship is not permitted, and it is not transferable to another University school, faculty or university. d. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds. e. No other amount is payable. a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient: I. withdraws from the exchange program prior to departure, II. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their exchange or short-term global mobility program application, III. is awarded an alternative scholarship for the same purpose. In such circumstances this scholarship will be terminated in favour of the alternative scholarship for the same purpose where the alternative scholarship is of higher value, or IV. does not meet any other provision as indicated in these terms that would lead to termination. b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated unless due to University error. c. Where a scholarship is terminated, the recipient may be liable to return some, or all of the funding provided. Failure to do so may lead to academic results being suppressed until the funding has been returned.
