About this scholarship

The University of Sydney Business School is committed to supporting both established and emergent leaders who have demonstrated innovative ideas to create long-term social change. This scholarship aims to enhance leadership capabilities of individuals who can demonstrate the achievement of significant social impact and an ongoing desire to improve the lives of disadvantaged Australians. 1. Background a. The University of Sydney Business School is committed to supporting both established and emergent leaders who have demonstrated innovative ideas in service to a commitment to create long-term social change. b. Social impact is a significant, positive change that addresses a pressing social challenge. This scholarship has been established to enhance the leadership capabilities of individuals who can demonstrate the achievement of significant social impact and an ongoing desire to improve the lives of disadvantaged Australians. 2. Eligibility a. To be considered for this scholarship, applicants must receive an unconditional offer of admission into the Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) course offered by the University of Sydney Business School. b. Applicants should ideally be working in a social enterprise or as a social entrepreneur. However, all applicants with a history of driving positive social change are encouraged to apply. c. Current students enrolled in the University of Sydney EMBA and University of Sydney employees are not eligible. 3. Selection Criteria a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of: I. academic merit, II. leadership potential, III. personal integrity, IV. performance in the selection interview, V. a personal statement addressing the selection criteria, and VI. motivation to succeed in business in a socially responsible way by demonstrating a commitment to apply the learning offered in the EMBA degree to making a positive difference to professional life in business practice. b. The Scholarship will be awarded by a Selection Committee consisting of the Director of the EMBA Program, or their nominated delegate (academic), and at least one other professional staff member from the EMBA Program. 4. Value a. The Scholarship will cover 50% of the tuition fees for the duration of the recipient’s Global EMBA program, on the basis the student remains enrolled full-time. b. The Scholarship does not cover the Student Services and Amenities fee (SSAF), travel costs, and the relevant in-country fees for each residential Unit of Study. c. Deferral of the Scholarship is not permitted. d. Suspension of the scholarship is only permitted in exceptional circumstances. Requests to suspend must be approved by the Director of the EMBA Program. e. The scholarship cannot be transferred to another University school, faculty or university. f. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds. g. No other amount is payable. 5. Ongoing eligibility a. To continue receipt of the Scholarship, the recipient must maintain a minimum Semester Average Mark (SAM) of 65 each semester, remain enrolled in 24 credit points of study each semester and have no outstanding fees. 6. Termination a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient: I. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol, II. commences part-time study, III. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance, IV. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application, V. accepts an alternative tuition fee scholarship, administered by the University of Sydney, valued at the same value or more for the same purpose as this Scholarship, or VI. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave. b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated unless due to University error. c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.
