Mary Reid Scholarship for Piano
$5,000 one-off
About this scholarship
The Mary Reid Scholarship for Piano scholarship was established by Fiona Maclachlan in the memory of her mother, Mrs Mary Reid. Mrs. Reid and her husband, George Reid, were married shortly before the outbreak of the Second World War. Mary emigrated to Australia from Scotland to settle with George on a sheep and cattle station in New South Wales. Captain Reid was killed in action in New Guinea in 1943. In the years following Mrs Reid found music to be a great solace. In 1953, she cofounded the Yass Music Club with a group of fellow enthusiasts, which continues today. Mrs Reid generously gave her time, talent and support to many organisations throughout her life. Enthusiastic and energetic, she sparkled with fun. She played the piano for hours at night and inspired her children to have a life-long love of music. The Mary Reid Scholarship for Piano supports a student undertaking a Bachelor of Music majoring in Classical Performance and specialising in piano.
