Walter and Eliza Hall were active philanthropists during their life together. Following her husband’s death Eliza set up a million pound charitable trust in 1912 calling it the Walter and Eliza Hall Trust, as a means of assisting those in need. Since that time the trust has helped thousands of Australians to reach their full potential. 1. Background a. Walter and Eliza Hall were active philanthropists during their life together. Following her husband’s death Eliza set up a million-pound charitable trust in 1912 calling it the Walter and Eliza Hall Trust (the Trust), as a means of assisting those in need. Since that time the trust has helped thousands of Australians to reach their full potential. 2. Eligibility a. Applicants must: I. be an Australian Citizen or Australian permanent resident and, II. are commencing or continuing full-time study in Nursing in a Commonwealth Supported Place, and III. are from a financially disadvantaged background. 3. Selection Criteria a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of: I. Summarised academic transcript II. Summary of financial position including supporting documents, financial disadvantage III. a Personal statement 500-1000 words specifically related to the scholarship criteria and how the scholarship will help you reach your full potential IV. Copy of CV b. The Scholarship will be awarded by the Head of School and Dean, University of Sydney Susan Wakil School of Nursing and Midwifery, or their nominated delegates. 4. Value a. The Scholarship is valued at $10,000, b. The Scholarship annual value will be paid as a one-off payment upon receipt of the recipient’s signed terms and conditions and acceptance. c. Deferral and/or suspension of the Scholarship is not permitted. d. The Scholarship cannot be used to pay for travel expenses. e. The scholarship cannot be transferred to another University school, faculty or university. f. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds. g. No other amount is payable. 5. Termination a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient: I. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol, II. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance, III. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application, IV. is awarded an alternative primary scholarship. In such circumstances this scholarship will be terminated in favour of the alternative scholarship where the alternative scholarship is of higher value, V. any other provision as indicated in these terms that would lead to termination. b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated. c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or withdraws from the relevant course, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed. 6. Other Requirements a. The recipient is required to provide a report to the Scholarships Office detailing their progress and how the scholarship has assisted their study. b. The personal details of the scholarship recipient may be provided to the Trustee of the Walter and Elixa Hall Trust. These details include and are limited to the name, course, area of study of the scholarship recipient.
